welcome to amoh online!
Throughout the calendar year, AMoH organizes special events throughout its coverage area. Many events are centered around holidays. Other events are centered around annual occasions such as Back to School. Most events are held in just two or three counties in our coverage area. As AMoH grows, we hope to expand these events into all counties that we serve. It is through the time, talents, and resources of our partner churches, organizations, and individuals that sustain our Mission. Please check out the Photo Album to see some pics from these events.
An Appalachia Easter
Each year, AMoH and our friends at partner churches hand-deliver Easter Baskets to less-fortunate families. There are baskets for both children and elderly folks. AMoH coordinates teams to go out into the mountains to personally deliver baskets and show the Love of Christ. All baskets are personally filled by volunteers at partner churches. Each basket contains candy and goodies specially tailored for children or elderly, along with a special message about the meaning of Easter, and an invitation to attend church to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. During our time of ministry here in the mountains, we realize that many young Moms-to-be did not have the supplies needed for their little newcomers. A few years ago, Appalachia Mission of Hope felt lead of the Lord to have a county-wide baby shower – to help meet these basic needs. Since that time, celebrating the birth of our newcomers has become an annual event. In honor of Mother’s Day, the mission sponsors a county-wide baby shower in May. Usually 100 plus mothers and moms-to-be join us in our celebration. A delicious buffet lunch is provided before the activities begin – dessert being an elegantly decorated cake. We invite representatives from local community social programs to set up booths and share information with the moms concerning the services they offer. We also have a doctor to speak to the girls about specific issues concerning their pregnancy and child care.

Back 2 School Bazaar
AMoH partners with area churches to bring back-to-school items to families in Appalachia. AMoH coordinates B2S parties complete with games and food for everyone to enjoy. At these events, children are given back-packs filled with school supplies. Personal items such as shampoo, combs, toothpaste, and toothbrushes are given out. Haircuts are given by barbers and beuticians that donate their time and talents. Clothing is available for kids as well. All of this is given out free of charge, and in a fun-filled atmosphere. In 2005, over 350 children received school supplies.
Thanksgiving in the Mountains
For our Thanksgiving event, AMoH partners with churches to make Turkey Boxes to deliver to families that might otherwise miss a Turkey Dinner at Thanksgiving. Each box contains a whole turkey and all the fixins needed to make a delicious turkey dinner. Also, each box contains an inspirational message and an invitation to worship. The boxes are personally delivered to families. In 2004 and 2005, we were able to supply 175 families in Jackson and Leslie Counties with a Turkey Box!!
Winter Coat Drive
Each year in October and November, AMoH coordinates a number of winter coat drives around the area. The coats collected are then sent out to our partner churches in Appalachia to give out to those who need them. This is a very important event, as each year there are many who do not have coats to help keep warm.
Christmas in Appalachia
Christmas brings about the busiest time for AMoH. For the holiday, AMoH coordinates Christmas in Appalachia festivals. Each festival has games, food and snacks, music, crafts, and presents for every child handed out by Mr. & Mrs. Claus. This festive atmosphere is the perfect setting to share in the celebration of the birth of the Christ. For many children, this IS their Christmas, and we hope to spread the joy of the holiday to everyone.
AMoH also distributes gifts to special families in need. Families facing hardship will be presented with gifts for the entire family, along with dinner boxes, containing everything needed to for a complete Christmas dinner. Christmas is that special time of year when joy and cheer abound. To those less fortunate, the holidays can be a rough time. It is only with the help of our partner churches and friends that we can bring the Christmas spirit into these families, and hopefully touch them with the Love of Christ.
