Mountain Missions

Mountain Missions is the household goods/clothing ministry of Appalachia Mission of Hope.  AMoH continuously collects donated  clothing, small and large appliances, furniture, food, personal care items, household goods, knick knacks, and other useful items that is then sent to partner churches and organizations throughout our coverage area for distribution.

AMoH collects donated items throughout the month.  Many are collected here at the AMoH mission building outside of McKee.  Also, AMoH volunteers travel all over the area to pick up donations from those who cannot make it to Jackson County or have no way to haul their donated goods.  AMoH travels to many churches and organizations in Lexington and other cities to pick up loads as well.  Once the donated items are collected, they are brought back to the AMoH mission building to be sorted.  A team of sorters then inspects and separates the clothing and other items.  The donated goods are then grouped together to be taken to a distribution point in the Appalachian area.  Some clothing and items are held back to use in our AMoH Yard Sale Fundraisers.  Other clothing and items are grouped to be used for special purposes, such as assisting people in need from burnouts, job loss, helping our grieving friends through Hospice, and other difficulties.

Once a load is ready for transport, AMoH contacts a partner church or organization to confirm they are ready and able to distribute the load.  Once things are ready on the receiving end, plans are made for transport.  Often times, our partners bring a crew to come and pick up the loads at the AMoH mission building.  When this is not possible, a group of AMoH volunteers is put together to deliver the load to our partners using an AMoH transport.

Once a load reaches its destination, the goods are then given out free of charge.  AMoH partners are located about the area so that even the most remote and outlying areas have access to assistance.  AMoH partners have the ability to get the word out so everyone in the area knows about the abetment.    Partner churches have first hand knowledge of their area and can utilize and distribute items in the most effective way to assist the peoples of their area.

No one is turned away from receiving help regardless of race, sex, religion, etc.  There is no discrimination when it comes to helping our friends in Appalachia.
